Dementia Tourism

The beautiful journey of today can only begin when we learn to let go of yesterday.

Dementia Inclusive Tourism

If you or a loved one are living with dementia, it’s understandable that you might be apprehensive or regard holidays as a thing of the past. However, this doesn’t need to be the case.

There are dementia-inclusive travel companies and businesses that specialise in taking you away on holiday, from short breaks in the UK to more active getaways and even cruises.

Our founder, herself an expert in dementia-specialist travel, has made the recommendations below based on her own understanding of what is required to help support people living with dementia and their carers go on holiday and have a much-needed, supported break. She has seen for herself which organisations are actively engaging in best practice and the range of support that’s available.

As Sargent Group Consulting starts to work with more and more organisations to make holiday and hospitality provision for the dementia community more widespread and mainstream, the list below will expand and more opportunities will be available for everybody.

The kind of support you require may be very specific. Specialist holiday companies understand that everyone’s needs will be different and that those living with dementia and their family carers each have unique circumstances. They are used to taking different approaches according to your needs.

  • Do spend a bit of time thinking about your individual needs and assessing which organisations might be best suited to you.
  • Do make your specific needs as clear as possible to the relevant organisation so they understand your requirements in greater detail and can ensure everything is in place.

If you are daunted by this, please have a look on our Dementia Travel Advisors Page and book your free 30-minute holiday-enquiry meeting, so we can start to help you find the right holiday for you.

You can also join our very active Private Facebook group , Dementia Travel and Tourism, where you can get tips and support and find out from others how they have navigated challenges that may be similar to your own. You’ll also be able to share your knowledge and experience with others and recommend great dementia-friendly places you’ve found for days out, short breaks or longer getaways. Do come and join us.
